    Anyone got an Auspit?

You see these used all the time on 4wd action and in other mags, but was just wondering if anyone has an auspit and if they reckon they are worth the money.

Here is a link if you dont know what im on about.

I haven't but we made our own larger version a couple months ago using star pickets, fencing wire, a spit pole from a bbq and a battery powered motor from Bunnings.

Worked well with a goat leg, couple chooks and couple bunnies

Do look like a nice little unit though but not sure for the price.

I have one. bought it earlier this year.

    one word - AWESOME!

so easy to set up. And nothing better than a few cans while 'supervising'.

can't wait for the weather to improve so i can try the 'greek marinated chicken' from the butcher in yarraville

Thats not a bad setup there Outlaw, very nice.

Yeah i have thought about making one up from different pieces, but with the auspit its all there, you just buy it and go. They do look like the good, and the cage you can put on to cook vegies in looks good to.

A mate of mine just bought one and we used it a fortnight ago.

It worked well, but took almost 3 hours to cook the meat. We had a fire going off to the side generating coals and then robbed that every 30-45 minutes to put under the spit. It was a lot of work.

We also cooked a lamb roast in a camp oven for just over an hour.

My mate loves it, but it too much work for me, constantly tending the fire from 3pm in the arvo. The camp oven is quicker and tastes just as good.

Great idea if you've got the time and wood.

I dont mind the time, once back at camp i get bored very quickly sitting around so need something to fiddle with, sounds like it might just be right up my alley
