Hi yes it sat the right way up all day and it looked like it was going to work, dropped the temp from 28deg down to 7deg in about 10 mins and sadly that was as good as it got.
The repairer man from Electrolux is sure its stuffed and the cheapest option starts around $600.00 + depending on what else is wrong, a reco one is about a $1000.00 & a new one $1800.00.
So we have decided to install a cheap bar fridge for this years holiday and take the Waco and use it as a freezer, total cost $205.00. We are only going to a caravan park so wont be a big drama.
We are also hoping to upgrade to a Eco-tourer caravan in the next year or so. (Do a search and have a look they seem alright so far but havent seen one up close)
Thanks for the help

Think we would be doing simular if we were going to keep this van. My intention is to do the old van up a bit, have a holiday this summer, then sell it for a bit of a profit.
Was a bit ordinary when we bought it and a little bit of work will turn out a fairly good van.
Thanks for your help

Andrew, any chance of photos of the top and rear of your old fridge? I have one similiar vintage and it going the same way.I was just wondering if all the connections for 12v, and the 240v & gas ones into the dual thermostat are wired correctly.
Thanks mate.

is it really worth buying a new van if you are going to use it for holidays once a year , if you are going to stay in c/v parks the bar fridge is the way to go heaps of people do it that way

Maybe this :
Buy a Waeco two way, upright compressor fridge and put in place of the 3 way.
When you buy your next van takeout the 3 way absorption fridge, stick it in the old van and sell it, then put your good 2 way compressor fridge in your new van.

"Wired Correctly" I'm sure it was, it was the origional fridge and has not been touched since being fitted. Its sitting on the back lawn at the moment not wired up to anything. Will get a photo if you still want one or maybe even better I have peeled the wiring diagrams off the back of the fridge and will get you a copy if you need it. Will try a few more things if it wont play your welcome to come and get it for parts befor I take it to the tip. Or let me know what bits you need I can post them to you>
Your fridge would have them too just take the lower vent on the out side of the van they should be stuck to the back of the thing.

We are only using the van as a stop gap for this summer we get away as often as we can and prefer the bush to parks, We are not quite there with the funds yet, and old war wounds we both suffer from takes all the fun out of taking the tent. Been a stressful year and not much time to think about escaping
This time next year should see us with a good off road set up. The repairs and work done on the old van will be worth it, expect to come out way in front, we got lucky the old van was cheap just a bit of TLC needed. Not so lucky with the fridge).
Think we were conned a bit and the van had been sitting unused for a lot longer than they said ?
