    Mil Water Jerricans

    Military Water Jerricans
I have a couple of the Mil Plastic Jerrys & the small cap fails, probably due to the small thread & the effort required to tighten it appears to "blow" the centre out of the cap at it's weakest point of the moulding.

I have replaced with the same but they also fail, so is there a better cap available for these. It is only the small one that fails.

    Thank you

Do you have arms of steel? Sure you're not doing it too tight? No problem with my military water jerries but maybe they are of a different design? Mine are these type.

Wouldn't have thought so being aware of the problem.

Mine are the genuine OZ Mil cans with 2 bungs on top only, no tap. I realise it seals on an O ring so doesn't need balls of steel.

Actually your one looks a better design. If that tap was a FM thread (which it doesn't look like) it could be a good replacement for the bung.

You can get the ones pictured for about $20 from army disposals stores if that works out easier than modifying yours.

I had one of those pictured with the tap/bung at the bottom and replaced it with the genuine OZ Mil cans with the two screw caps on the top. Heavier plastic and champhered corners on the base - I think the genuine article will handle more abuse, I haven't had a problem with the screw caps/Orings.

What happens is the the plastic in the caps becomes brittle with age. Happened to mine. They were only 18 years old, you would think they would last longer,
