Would you reccommend i went with evakool? They are the same price ($1199) as the waeco in the 50L and have a 5 year warranty. Does anyone know how long the waeco warranty is?

Another Waeco thing that annoys me (while I'm on a roll) is the 'best mates' warranty they had when I bought mine. Meant you got a loan fridge when yours was in for repairs. The three times mine was in for repairs I never got a loaner. Didn't have one available they would say. Not even in a different size.![]()

I've had an engel now for 5 years and it has been excellent and problem free.
The way I look at it is if you have a fridge failure in the middle of no where you could go hungry, and that would mess with your holiday. IMHO that's worth paying the few $$ more for.
2005 Defender 110
I've had a 60l jobby for 5+ yrs which, apart from changing the useless original socket to something decent, has been totally trouble free. They are a bit dicky about voltage drop, but once I sorted that it has been faultless. In short, based on my experience I would buy another. No doubt Engels are very good, as to whether they are good enough for all the extra dosh ... well that's another matter.
Mate, I would just buy which ever one you feel comfortable with. None of them are faultless, and the trouble with asking for opinions is just that, opinions !!
All these threads inevitably turn into the Toyota/Nissan, Canon/Nikon Engel/Waeco debate and become meaningless.

what bushie said...........go an engel
I just bought a Bushman (www.bushman.com.au). I'm yet to have any experience in using it, except after turning it on yesterday via 240V it cooled down to -5 in about 30 minutes. I'm going to try freezing some ice tonight and see how it goes.
I like the different configs you get with them, as they come with 2 different size lids, 3 baskets and a collar to enlarge it another 10L (and a bag). All this for $1150 (retail, I got it a bit cheaper) worked out to be good value IMO.
If I didn't get that I would have bought the new ARB one.
Interest point was I had narrowed my choice down to the Bushman or ARB before I saw the 4WD Action magazine comparison, which gave the ARB "Best Overall" and the Bushman "Best Value"!
