    Deposit put on Rangie

Well everyone I have sold my 100 series and put a deposit on a late 94 Range Rover Vogue SE Classic edition.
The car has Ayres service history and has had HUGE money spent on it over the years.
The one thing i am curious about is that it has had the whole firewall replaced a few years back due to rust? Has anyone heard of this?

    Firewall/Bulkhead rust

Yeah it seems strange to me, Ayres told me that they found rust and were told "I don't care just replace the whole thing", just like they were told to replace the entire engine with a new one at 140,000Kms due to a few problems.
The thing that worries me is that if the Bulkhead/Firewall rusted what else is on its way as the car has live near the water.

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Has it got a sunroof?

If the drains are blocked then it could leave the floor area wet the whole time. Or the heater, but this shouldn't cause too much rust as the coolant tends to slow it. Or the screen leaking. BUT to change a whole firewall is a BIG job and would have to have a lot of rust to be justified.

I would be looking at the body mounts in front of the rear wheels, the rear crossmember , the inner guards ,etc etc before paying too much.

Also if it has had a dive in the ocean it could happen.

But a well maintained car should not have rust in the firewall in Australia. of course in the UK all bets are off.
I had mine Endrusted 10.5 years ago and not a spot since even in the top tailgate.

    Thanks,
According to Ayres the rust was not that serious he just wanted it replaced instead of repaired, He also put a new tailgate on it at the same time.
I got it for $6,200 so not too worried as i had budgeted for a good P38 so have some money to spend

good buy they are a nice rig, maybe just keep an eye on the dirt build up inside the front guard, if it lived on a dirt road that can build up and cause rust and as metioned the blocked sun roof drains, or if the windscreen leaks it can run down (unnoticed) and wet the underlay causing rust

It seems like you got one out of the box HPR50, i.e. one in fantastic condition and previously owned by a maintenance fanatic. Lucky you!

Thanks everyone for the advise, I will check those items before I hand over the rest of the cash.
Then the 900 Km drive home from Syd to Melb.
Can't wait to get it dirty, I will keep a look out for a aulro outing in Vic (if you have them) as I would love to bring it out and meet a few of you.
