Thread: Which shock absorbers to buy?

What do you use the Rangie for and how long do you plan on keeping it for?

Generally speaking I really like the Bilstein. They're durable and take an absolute pounding. They live long and they have good control. Some find them to be too stiff, but that stiffness brings control.

It's actually a Series 3 Stage 1 100" tray.
The 100" because it's built on a RRC chassis.
Years ago it used to be my daily drive but now it's the shopping trolley and garbage bin. I use it for the weekend shopping and whatever gardening and household duties are required. Occasionally its called upon to go camping in the local state forest or tow a camper or trailer. It used to have Dunlop super gripper 7.50R16 LT tyres but now it has Bridgestone dueller A/T's with a road tread.

There's only one photo of this Landy in my album. I have heaps more. I'll load a few more up later.
How long am I keeping it? I've sold four cars in my life and I've regretted each sale. I've had this one for eighteen years and have just spent 8k rebuilding the motor and other work. I'm about to spend more money on it and It has been valued at about 3k. I'm getting buried with it.

What sort if Bilsteins do you use?

Nice Series! The body sits nicely on it too.

I use Patrol rears (360/80) in the front and modified 10" travel 6100's (400/100) in the rear. These wont suit your application for fit or rates though.

Bilstein part numbers for your model are B46 0243 front, and B46 0253 Rear.

I would also recommend Boge, KYB, Tokico or DeCarbon.

The factory units aren't all that bad actually for normal use, cheap too

(PS:Nice Benz too!! 280SE 3.5???)

Any chance of more pics? I love that era Merc, especially the finny! We had a '67 250SE and a '69 250 compact for a time, loverly vehicles.
