    air suspension pump

Hi one and all, having a problem on my 93 vogue. the pump stays on after turning off ignition and of course gets amazingly hot. I disconnected it when i got to work this morning and just reconnected for the 30 min drive home. have disconnected again now , but i need to use the car in the morning .. any clues out there, would there be a relay or is it a case of a new pump. ( the same pump also works thr ABS of course so it has to be running i assume. The air suspension was removed years ago.. cheers.

The air suspension pump and the brake booster pump are two separate items. The EAS pump on a RR classic is under the sill (RHS, IIRC).

    ah ha Thanks

So the visible pump would be the booster pump. That would account for no braking assistance when it was disconnected. The NRMA man did mention that it may have an effect on the braking ! Would it also cause the abs system to operate when the brakes are not in use ? as I thought i could detect a hot asbestos brake pad type smell.. Will be a trip to the mechanic in the morning I guess. Thanks

It is possible the accumulator (the ball thing) is failing. The pump has to build up pressure against the accumulator (much like the ball accumulator on a domestic water pump connected to a rain water tank).

Accumulators fail after time and I'd suspect it's on the way out.

    Have a look here: rrepairs
