    ZF box, unsure on them.

I am having some issues with the box in the Rangie, it has only done 70,000 and had services every 10,000-15,000Kms but the torque converter is playing up. When it is cold its all good but when it gets hot the torque converter only half locks up at 85 ish but if you speed up to 100 then flick it to third then back to fourth it locks up fine???
Its a little whiney as well.
I had this same box in a BMW 535i and it was a disaster though that was when i was 18 and i don't think ZF's like constant abuse.

whats in front of it? sounds like a converter prob. Had my ZF rebuilt by Jono from Peninsula Auto Trans (mate of mine) down in safety beach, it is in a 300tdi disco and had 230,000k on it, the auto was still like new but the lock up in the converter was shagged.. Converter would lock when it suited itself

The box is OK ... you can break anything by "abusing" it

The box was rebuilt 70,000kms ago, Does anyone know the costs of new converter? or how much to convert a 94 RRC to manual?

I think your converter will be fine. Sounds like the convenor or a sticky valve. The 4HP22 is a very good box behind the 3.5 or a 3.9. The wine or sing is likely close to normal with its age. No rattling or grinding sounds wile in 4th lock up?

Yes A late Disco 1 R380 will do fine. Advoid the LT77 as found in the mid 80's Rangies
