    RRC outer door handle tired

OK all you RRC , Marina, and Ital drivers.

My LH rear back door exterior handle Juuust engages sometimes to open the door on my 92 RRC. Now will open maybe first but generally second pull.
It would not open at all at the end of my last three month trip , and I stripped off the inner lining and lengthened the rod ( to about the end of its travel)to the junction of the inner/outer and chilproof thingo. Opens fine from the inside , just like a new one.

My question is? Where is the problem or more correctly wear is the problem? Is it the lock that is worn out or the outer handle?
    Regards Philip A

    Your answer is here.

I have found greasing all the moving parts makes opening the door SOOO much easier. Makes sure you keep the plastic liner in place and you will find there will be no dirt attach itself even thou the bottom of the doors have drain holes.

And the wear is usually the short plastic rod end that wears. See below.
As above if you grease them they last forever.

It can also be the door lock mechanism itself. On mine the springs were tired. Got a 2nd hand lock from a wrecker and a couple of hours later she works fine.

I had the same problem about 6 months ago.I took the steel angled piece that the plastic rod pushes on and built the face up with weld. Then I grounded it flat on a bench grinder with a slight angle inwards (the rod had worn and was tending to slide off, requiring 2 pulls of the handle).
Bit of etch primer and then grease as buzz66 suggested and it works really well again.
