    Wood Veneer Repair

Does anyone know of specialist automotive interior restorers who repair/replace wood veneer sections? Alternatively any sources of supply of 1989 RRC Vogue wood veneer pieces - especially console window switch panel and transmission selector panel?

Have you considered buying a sheet of veneer and doing it yourself.

It isn't that hard unless you want a Rolls-Royce finish.

I made a complete new dash (not just a re-veneer job) for my Hillman Hunter:

Thanks Ron, Your Hillman dash looks great (car I learnt to drive on!). I could see myself making a total mess of trying to cut out all the square apertures for the window switches and getting edges to join nicely but it might come to it yet - have seen lots of veneer suppliers.

Hmmm - a Hillman Hunter Royal 660 or a Hunter GT was on my shopping list for my very first car many many years ago - but my Dad bought me a Morris 1300 Auto - it had a plastic wood grain dash and like all morrises stopped two hours before the rain arrived.

Mine was a 660. We gave it away 2 years ago - we bought it new in 1971. The new owner is doing a restoration on it. It had almost no rust and we had the original engine all machined, new pistons, etc. in parts in the garage.

Cutting the square holes is easier than you think. One doesn't try to cut them up to the edge. Use a rasp and rat-tail files to trim the veneer back to the edge.

Thanks Garry for the link to Carwood. I've emailed them to see if I can post my bits in.

    Hi Aaron,

I know this was a while ago...just wanted to check if you were happy with the veneer repair at Carwood? I am about to get the veneer in the centre console repaired on my 1995 rrc.

    Hi Andrew,
Lucky I noticed your question - wondered why I had a post showing!
I did correspond with Carwood and recall quotes of around $220 for each smaller piece to be re-veneered. Smaller pieces being the window switch panel and the auto shifter surround.
The main dash piece was a few more hundred as far as I remember. All too dear.

My wife just tried again and has found an ebay australia store called "Dash Designs"
at Factory 4, 34 Christensen St, CHELTENHAM. VIC 3192
    Phone 03 95533249
He advertises Range Rover amongst others makes in French polished walnut timber veneer for $880 for 10 pieces + postage. 5 yr warranty.
You send your peices in. Looks good and might get me enthused again.
    Aaron
