The most obvious difference is a small relief in the intake ports on the EFI heads for the injectors.
might be an obvious question but are there differences between early efi and late carb heads (eg 86/7 efi and 80 carbie ) ?
cheers mark

I believe the valves are slightly bigger, too.
yep, bigger valves in the later heads

G`day , as Scotts says not alot of difference between the years you give .
As well as the injector cut outs the carby heads may have passages into the exhaust ports/valves that need pluging and the 87 efi heads may have wasted stem inlet valves .
Both type use if fitted the same type stem seals .
Either heads will have the same casting numbers which is ERC 0216 .
The valves are the same sizes in each head and even though from 3.5s they are close as to the same size a 4.6 uses .
Smaller valves are found in pre 1976 heads which are the same size as what a Leyland 4.4 uses .
Cheers
3.9 EFI heads also have "waisted" inlet valves ie smaller stem on top of valve head.
