well, the electrics are least of my worries now. The motor is %$##. wouldn't start so I checked battery which was okay, took off the first spark plug to the left (when facing engine from front) wet spark plug took off main spark plug lead and turned her over, coolent sprayed out everywhere from cylinder. To say that this is a project car is an understatement now, I paid 3k for it, not sure if its worth fixing. If I could find a cheap good p76 engine, but then how would I bypass all the electrics to run this.

I don't mind project cars ... Sounds as tho at least your up for a entertaining weekend of head gasket changing .... No big deal ... All ABC (for now)

Did you buy this for your daily runner ...or your weekend toy / restorer

If you were in Perth ... I'ld be asking about things like, has it got a sunroof? ...

    Cheers
    Mike

yeah, but it may be a slipped liner I suppose the only way to tell is by pulling the heads off. has sunroof but doesn't work lol.

Not a good time for the negatives .....

    It's a 3.9V8 .... They are fairly robust compared to the others (4.0 & 4.6) ... I'm voting gasket

Sunroof no worky? .... send it to me

Your sun roof playing up Mike.
I'd be thinking a head gasket as well. Unless you surface grind it all flat again I wouldn't use the tin gaskets either.

thanks for the info Tony and Mike,

I suppose I should use new head bolts too. I'll pull heads off first before I buy the composite gaskets, just incase it's the liner. I heard that it's rare to get blown gasket and water going in on the first cylinder to the left when viewing front on because of the water jacket location. But yeah this Rangie is meant for a weekend machine/camping. Not a daily driver Also thinking of ripping out air suspension and put coils. But I'll see how reliable the air sysem is first. It seems a lot firmer than coils from what I remember, very soft on rough terrain but firm on road.

    cheers

My opinion only ... If your gonna play in mud and water .... Cut to the chase and go the coils

I have only just seen this "other thread" .... I had not realised it was a fresh motor ....
There are photos of slipped liners on this site + other areas where they can fail in the liner .... have a search

Pull it down and go from there .... If it comes down to the wire, Disco motors are fairly cheap to buy ...

I've been doing some testing and I have no voltage going to my light toggle switch. I've looked at fuse on front fascia and looks alright. I've put a cable tracer locator on the red and black and I can trace it going back to where that fusible link must be next to battery and then nothing. I guess this must be where the issue is perhaps. No instrument lights and no parking/driving lights, no tail lights except brake/indicator.

There is a good 3.9L in the market section.
Used to belong to Sovereign Motors and been well looked after.

    Just a thought.
