What do you get for your $400? My 93 rides on coils, pretty sure all you need is coils and seats for them to sit on (and rear reatainers), this can be had from any classic rangie
So I found a coil conversion kit for 400inc. Will take 4 weeks to get here but this beasts a project so I don't mind the wait. Now I was going to go with the standard springs and get a front set of boge shocks and pump up gas for the rears. I'll be doing mainly beach work so I wanted wider tyres. I don't think I'll be carrying too much gear, just the basics needed for a camping trip.
What lift can I get away with safely without having to mod other things?
How capable are the standard springs and shocks?(I want to retain the luxury ride)
I'll need flares, how wide of a tyre can I go without rubbing, if I don't do the lift?
Silly questions I know but I'm a bit of a newb so I value your thoughts
cheers

The kit comprises of, 1 x fitting kit, 4 x spring seats, 4 x spring retainers, 1 x pair rear blue BM springs, 1 x pair front blue BM springs
Wish there was a good wreckers here in Rockhampton but I feel better about new springs
2 inches is about the max where you have no castor at the front. I reduced the front of mine to 1.5 inches (LRA Green stripe springs ) to reduce wandering and I am very happy. What lift can I get away with safely without having to mod other things?

Standard springs are very soft in a RRC and IMHO are too soft for Australia. The LRA Green fronts are 160Lb per inch which is 10% stiffer than the 133Lb per inch standard. I have LRA "orange" in the rear which are 180Lbs and give a good ride BUT you do not have a load leveller so you will have to go stiffer. 220 Lb per inch Disco rear springs are usually recommended. You should try and find out what the spring rates actually are on the springs you have bought, as they most probably are heavier anyway.
Widest tyre without trimming is 245.75x16 at about 31inches tall.Even then you should trim the bolt at 12o'clock in the outer rear guard and take the flange off the outer rear guard from 12 oclock to the front.

Thanks Philip for that info, haven't ordered yet so I'll see what I'm getting first.
Is it possible to use the pump up shocks to help level things out if I need it?
Can I put a load leveller from older model and put it in the 93? mounts should still be there?
Cheers
Steve
Hi Milld,
In your position I would be looking at these:
Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs for Coil Spring Suspension, Coil Rite Air Bags - TruckSpring.com
Some AULRO crew have fitted them.

Well the most popular option is to fit Poly air (air bladders that fit inside the spring-not air shocks) or the ones in the post above. I have Polyair as well as the load leveller and am happy but be aware that they reduce side to side articulation , if you are a mad mountain climber. Is it possible to use the pump up shocks to help level things out if I need it?

I do not know whether the air suspension cars have the centre mount on the chassis cross member for the hydromat. I do not think so but maybe someone with an air suspension car can look and answer. In any case Hydromats must be $800 or so by now although reco ones are probably cheaper.

very interesting, they both sound good, it's a pitty the hydromat is so expensive, interesting to see if the mount is there. Can you have the polyair and coilrite deflated untill you need it?
I also would have thought gas pump up shocks in the rear would help level things if needed
No the makers say you need at least 4PSI to avoid the bags being pinched between coils when the springs are compressed. Can you have the polyair and coilrite deflated untill you need it?
However I have pulled the valve cores out in the past when going off road with no problems , but it is a lottery.

Don't waste your time with pump up shocks. My POS had them fitted when I bought it and they didn't do much.
If one function of any 2 in 1 type unit fails it is a throwaway and you effectively have to fix both functions even though one is still working. Go for the bags.
cheers, DL
