I posted this in the RRC forum as the enquiry was concerning my SIII Stage 1 hybrid which has a 1981 RRC chassis and running gear. The front and rear flanges are exactly the same as a RRC. The list price I was quoted of a genuine was in the order of $600 (I shall pause here so you can get up from the floor and back in the seat) and the list price I was quoted of a non-genuine was in the order of $200.
How much is that speedie sleeve?
The seal was a few dollars. My output shaft may be OK or it may not. I just want to be prepared on the day.
What do I need to tell the young, spotty sales person (who thinks a speedie sleeve is a detachable hoodie arm) to get the correct part.

1/2 the out put shafts I look at should have a speedy sleeve or should be replaced. Double lipped seals are the obvious choice.

But by the time you add up the cost of cement speedy sleeve and seal ( which in my opinion is not as good as a double lipped) you will have spent a bit more than $200 bucks and would have mucked about for 1/2 day with the risk of it failing in a short time. Or just grab the $200 flange and a double lipped seal. Swapping them out and making an oil resistant seal, silicone that in as well is a 45 mint job, with a good nights sleep to follow.

Its not that i don’t like speedy sleeves. I just don’t think that an out put flange is the sort of place you would use one. By nature they are a bogie job (no class) I would how ever use a speedy sleeve say on the rear motor seal if required, but even then you can space out a double lipped seal.

The rear seal output flange on a defender LT95 is longer than the RR equivalent. This is accommodating the deeper transmission brake. If your one is the same then i would hazard a guess and say you have a RR box fitted complete with RR transition brake.

In sort, aftermarket flange $200. double lipped seal. 45 mints. Job done and it would have tightened up some of the slop off the spigot.

I must admit the last time I bought a speedie sleeve was back in the mid 90's. It is still performing well to this day. I cannot believe one today would cost around $180 but there you go.
The seal is already purchased. Single lip but thanks for the two lip part number. No felt seal is needed as they are used on the rear shaft.
I have been given a part no. of RNF453 on another forum for the speedie sleeve but there is a little confusion in terminology. Is this the correct one?
Another part no I have found is 99176. Is this one correct?

Mick, Both front and rear output flanges on the LT95 have the felt washer under the lock nut and washer on the shaft. As said earlier also use silicon under the washer to complete the seal otherwise they weep oil.

Brian another trick I have done to Chronic leaking LT95's is put 2 seals in the front output. You can get 2 single lip seals in the housing! Dave

Well, I went into Repco on Monday. "Can I help you?" said the young, spotty salesman. He was a very pleasant, clean fellow.
"Do you sell speedie sleeves?" I asked.
"What are they?" he replied. Not off to a good start I thought but I shall persist. After all, I am in an industrial area with many automotive workshops and suppliers about.
"It's a thin stainless steel sleeve that is used to repair a drive shaft when the oil seal has worn a groove in the drive shaft." I replied.
"No, we don't have those" he said and continued with "but we do have split tube."
"What's that?" I asked. He then showed me some spiral electrical cable tube. As I walked out shaking my head he offered "You could try the place over the road."
It was an electrical wholesalers.
Generally speaking, I find the problem with sales staff today is they only know how to sell widgets. They don't know the product they are selling. In six months time they've move on to selling different widgets somewhere else so they don't pick up product knowledge.
What I need to be able to do is to walk in and say "I would like you to order in this product with this catalogue number from this supplier."
I've tried go-ogling but it returns lots of rubbish as well as unrelated stuff.
Does anyone know where I can find a PDF or on-line catalogue?

A bearing supplier will have sleeves and seals. I get mine from Rob Hamilton's in Geelong. Walk in, all on the shelf, including stuff like swivel hub seals, etc.

Take any part you need a sleeve for with you so they can supply the right one first time.

well that was your mistake.

repco only makes money one day a year. thats fathersday.

all the fathers who are disapointed with there Kaftans, socks etc who decide to spend up large on imported chinese made seat covers and use once allen keys.

The last Speedie Sleeve I bought from Repco. That was for a hub. Back in the mid 90's. Well naturally I thought I'd go to Repco again.

LOL i had an AP6 and needed some studs for the manifold, UNF one side, UNc the other. went to repco. must have gotten the same spotty faced boy as you, either that or they only employ spotty faced boys. any way we never got past "stud" ( probably thought i wanted the same as what he had nailed in his face) UNC got him in a real tizzy.

my Local Repco had a Kid with all his purple hair hanging off one side of his face ( flock of seagulls) and an arrogant attitude. The sort of kid you would love to slap.

auto barn up the road is about the same, but at least they have a couple of guys who are a bit older and know there stuff. " sorry we don’t stock that any more but you can go to XXXX" is not really want you want to hear but its way better than WHAT? I don’t know, followed by silence.

G'day Folks

In the last 15-20 years Repco as a company have had several different owners/entrepreneurs/company strippers,and there are several manufacturing companies will no longer deal with them, Hella is one of those companies, and there are several more,I think that the owner of Super Cheap was one of the personal that was made redundant during those years, and, with his product knowledge and contacts set himself up in his garage, the rest is history
