    Vacuum Question

I've been doing the centre diff on my newly aquired 82 Rangie, had some problems with the vacuum actuator for the centre diff lock, got that sorted and then realised that the 3 vacuum lines going to the switch are not connected at the manifold, therefore the switch fails to operate the actuator. My rangie runs a 4.4L P76 V8 with a Rochester Quadrajet carb, there does not seem to be anywhere to plug the lines in. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestion or experience in this department?

2 of the lines go to the actuator on the t/case and the other goes to the vacuum source. You may have to tap into the intake manifold if there is no where else to connect this hose.

So there should be 2 lines going from the switch to the actuator, and one line going from the switch to the vacuum source?? I found another two lines that seem to travel back toward the t/case that were not connected to anything and had screw's in the ends of them plugging them up. That made 5 seperate lines altogether. Maybe the other two have some other non vital use? So from what you are saying I only need one line to vacuum and the switch then decides which line gets vacuum depending on its position?

    Cheers

2 lines, clear, with a curled tail are breathers for transfer and gearbag, from the actuator switch you have 3 lines, 2 to the diaphragm on the front of the transfer, for the centre diff lock, the other to the manifold for a vacuum source.....BUT.....playing with second hand rover stuff, you never know what you'll find

Yes they both had curled tails....so it would be a fair idea to remove the screws blocking the breathers then...so they might actually serve their purpose? Thanks. They were hung up on the firewall somewhere and certainly led back to the top of the gearbag and t/case when I got under it and tracked them back as far as I could.

    Cheers

Haha, yea, remove the screws, like I said, second hand rover's show some signs of "special" peoples thoughts on how to fix their car

Then just chase out the other lines and your done

Cheers, I've got the two lines to the vacuum bulb sussed and in their respective positions, located the missing vacuum line, but cant find an outlet on the Quadrajet for it, so yea, I think there is a hole in the manifold that could take a fitting...I'll sort something out somehow and get this jigger running somewhat like Leyland intended. LOL

Should have manifold vacuum ports lowon the carb base plate, failing that, T into an existing one
