I bought this old 72 RRC because I needed an engine, now I am thinking 72 models are getting a bit rare and worth restoring, looks fairly original but I haven't seen this type of sills before, the extension you can see from the inner sill, is the bottom part of an extra layer covering the whole inner sill with a 90 degree fold at the top which is spot welded though the normal inner sill, it is heavier gauge steel than the usual 20 gauge body panels. It looks to be original as the seat mounting reinforcements are spot welded on top, and there is no sign of any rust repairs, so hoping someone can tell me this is standard 72 feature.
Cheers David.

good luck if you do do a restore, probably a good time to do one as parts are available and usually pretty cheap.
Cant say for sure about the sills on a 72, mine is a 81' 2 door so the last of the line i believe and the sills are not the same you your pic.
Hi
A mate of mine had a very early RR in Sydney that he resprayed from green to Ferrari red. It had the same type of sills you have shown.
At the time I had a 1975 model and it was different to mine.
Thanks Bundy, I have seen another 71 and it is the same as well, so must be standard for the early models, I find it odd, that James Taylor didn't mention this in his otherwise very detailed book, Original Range Rover, maybe most of the ones in the UK, have had the sills rusted away and replaced!
Anyway started some (very) minor restoration by repairing the top of the instrument pod, where they are almost always broken by cutting a metal strip and clamping with epoxy, worked well if you did this carefully you would not be able to pick it.
