Vacuum pump for 94 Vogue SE

What do folk do when the vacuum pump sucks its last ? - how do we operate the Cruise Control? - especially if the engine manifold vacuum is insuficient.

    - How much for a replacement ? - Best price so far is over $500. OUCH!!!

Hi JIP. There's a thread similar close by, and the comments apply to your query..

Same cruise vac pump as in most Disco 1 and p38a, and I think EA/B/D/ Falcon. If you pay more than $30, welllllllllllll.....

Check the RAVE for the trouble shoot, because there about 9,000 things that can cause faults with RRC cruise control. The test procedure on RAVE will help pinpoint your vehicle's problem.

    Pics of Vacuum pump

    - I have solved the mystery of the dead Cruise Control, and it is indeed the vacuum pump...
    - To be specific, its the absence of said pump... - Found the vac hose from CC throttle motor, traced it around the fender to just in front of the air filter... and there it ended!

Vac hose was cracked and leaked like a sieve, which I suppose killed the pump. Previous owner's "mechanic" would have removed and binned it.

Intend to try tapping into manifold vacuum somewhere, just to see if the C/C actually operates. If so, then I'll lash out and get one. Otherwise not interested in fault-finding AND replacing expen$ive electrics with more genuine, unreliable parts...
Apologies for my apparant cynicism, but when things like window switches and A/C fan speed switches are regarded by Rover as 'consumables' I reckon its time to stop playing their (Rover management & Lucas) silly little games!

Does anyone know how they are controlled?

I have a command after market cruise which works off engine vacuum, but doesn't have enough power to kick down if I am on a long hill.

If the pump is controlled by an internal pressure regulator Ie it turns on and off automatically at a vacuum level, I could just just have it switched from my cruise switch.

It is not really feasible if it is switched by the cruise computer. I had a look at a Jaguar one on Ebay( probably the same) and it had a third wire along with power and earth which suggested to me it may be externally switched.
Anyone know or willing to connect a live wire to see if it cuts out?
