    recovery hooks - placement ?

Where is the best place and method of mounting recovery hooks / fittings on the front of my 94 Vogue Classic? - I've got the ARB (I think) full bumper-replacement bar, but its mounting to the chassis does'nt do muchg for me...

    Help Please !!!

Ihave the same problem the easier way i found was to fit a recovery hook to the tow bar rear as a shackle to the reace hitch as for the front i have no idea i have aly bash plate and i still cant find some where to put one minds a soft dash so the bull bar is out of the question( ie air bags )
May be these cars dont get stuck!

I have the recovery rated ARB winch bar on my RRC and it has two recovery eyes built in to it already.
You may be able to use the mount points for the bar if at eye level they are below the lowest part of the bumper line. Unless it's a recovery rated bar, don't attach any points to it.
At the rear, you can use the point where the factory tie downs are but make sure you get the right hooks, otherwise if you have a Reece type hitch there are recovery inserts available.

    Cheers

When I had an old style ARB bar on my 92, I fitted rated eyes just next to the uprights, and backed them with 1/4 inch steel plates about 100MM square and two nuts. Never had a problem , though I don't get stuck much. I also welded a "reverse" receiver,ie a piece of square steel bar which fitted inside the hitch part of a class 3 hitch, onto a flat flange and then behind the front surface of the bullbar.

I now have no bullbar and have fitted a hayman reece type towbar to the front beneath the bumper. ( just last week) .

In addition, because I have a 4000Lb warn portable winch and will probably need to double pull, I also fitted a rated tow hook on a piece of 1/4 inch steel plate with 3 mounts through the towbar mounting plate . two of the bolts are 1/2 inch High tensile UNF which also hold on the towbar with a third 7/16? only through the towbar mount plate which is 5/16 thick.
That sucker is not going to move.
Hope it gives you some ideas.

    Good Ideas and airbags

Thanks for the ideas guys. :-)

Turns out the front bar is not a genuine ARB, but something that looks like it. - Previous owner used the spotlight cross-piece as a recovery point, so I noticed the other day...

Not going to spend too much, so far its proving to be very very expensive to just drive down the road, never mind OFF it !!!

Plan is to mount two hooks onto the bar mounting plate, suitable re-inforced, and use a yoke/harness to attach to both if I need assistance.

Someone mentioned to me that its a good idea to disconnect the airbag sensors during 4WD adventures, as a savage jolt might set them off. - Especially during an enthusiastic recovery... I have no idea if this is true or not.

    - Any one know for sure ?

Only if its connected to the same thing as the sensors ie bullbar.
Never heard of SRS triggering fro a chassis point recovery.

    Cheers

NOT A CHANCE! (as long as you don't try to recover from in front of the sensors)
Have you not seen the video of testing the airbag sensors on a D1 by tying the rear of the car to a concrete slab with a cable then accelerating hard away until the car was jerked off the ground by the impact? You wince every time.

I looked for it after I posted with no luck.
It was an official LR video showing the testing they did when they fitted the airbags, probably to reduce any anxiety by the customers, just like your mate.
When I googled "Land Rover D1 airbag testing" a lot of really interesting stuff came up, like "20 years of Disco " with grabs from ads etc.
