    2 door or 4 door?

    Hi,

Were there mechanical differences between the 2-door and 4-door models? What options should I look for, and what should I avoid when looking to buy a RRC for every day use?

Quite a large number of RRCs in these parts, the weather helps keep rust away, but they aint cheap.

    Cheers!

2 doors stopped production in 1983 , so any mechanical differences relate to age rather than 2-4 doors. The 84 four door was about identical to the 2 door .
The next big change was injection in 87?, and the newer interior in 85?, and the ZF 4 speed auto in 87.

The biggest changes were in 89 when the 3.9 came with much better injection and a sronger ZF auto.

I and many others think that the 89 3.9 up to say 91 or 92 are the best keepers as they have good wiring, and do not have expensive to fix stuff like ABS and air suspension. I have a 92 after an 81 2door and 77 2 door and there is no comparison for comfort and quietness.
2 door seatbelts and seats , and the 4door up to the new interior can put people off as the seatbelts are attached to the seats and can be uncomfortable to many.

Which briefly restarted in 1990 when the CSK 2-doors were made. Though it would probably be hard to find one in SA.

Well if we want to be dead accurate they made 2 door "commercials " which were sold in France ( Ireland? Sweden ?) and elsewhere right up to the end of production. AFAIK they had no back windows to meet rego requirements and got lower tax and rego..

2 doors only came with 4 speed box although they were indestructable.
Big doors on 2 doors as well, can be hard to get in and out.
Good ones are now collectable classics.

Good 4 doors are also hard to come by, cheapest for daily will be a 87 model ish, they are basic and often come up.
Once you get all the mods like abs, air suspension, electric seats and sunroofs etc at a car at that age, seals will harden and crack or fall off, its only natural really.

A 04 onwards Disco I would have thought be a better daily drive option especially in tdi form it be cheap to run also.
Just finding a good one will be biggest challenge.

Above all, have them checked out and make sure its not over-heated at any stage.
That kills both the petrol and diesel donk.

CSK may be tracked through range rover :: csk. As you can read there: "Three cars went to Australia, as many as twelve we believe went to New Zealand ..." and ...

"In Australia, there was a special edition four-door model badged as a CSK. It was created by the importers and carried a simple CSK logo which was not intended even remotely to resemble Spen King's signature. There were 400 Australian-specification CSK's made at the same time, in emulation, but they were based on the standard four-door Vogue SE equipped with a coachline and a logo."
