    Leaks ? - Do they leak ???

    Not sure if the original "expert" opinion of *Looks OK" includes ALL possible tiny leaks.

    Anyway, its re-assuring to know that the pump can last several years more!

    I've put in a switch on the front face of the driver's seat mount, next to the access hatch and spliced into the diagnostic plug/socket.
    - Duplicates the effect of un-plugging, that is, freezes the EAS system.

    When I don't forget...I turn it off when the car is off, and I usually run it at "Standard height" all the time as I find the ride slightly softer at higher speeds, when the EAS wants to lower it for handling. - I don't drive like a hoon these days.

    A couple of those removable coloured paper dots (black) placed on the instrument 'glass' keeps the Three Amigoes out of my face !

    The Thomas pump is very well regarded and not a cheap option. These pumps can be refurbished economically as the parts are readily available from several sources. There is even a guy on ebay who brakes the pumps and sells individual bits ie armature, brush head.
    If you are looking for a replacement you will pay dearly for one with the same capacity and cycle rate. There are plenty available from the US as they are used on low rider custom cars with air bag suspension.
    having had 3 pumps on the bench recently with new piston seals fitted I would highly recommend that the actual cylinder bore is also replaced. The flow rates on the same pump with each of the 3 cylinders ranged from good to pathetic proving the cylinders wear and the compression is lost

    The thermal cut outs can also give up the ghost. They can be replaced or just bridged with a bit of solder

    Get the Thomas pump running as it should and you wont need another

    air compressor

    just been through the thought process covered in this link. thomas australia has no listing for the range rover classic air pump. they build the compressor to spec for rover and will only build to there orders. they will help to match a stock unit that is as close as possible but may not bolt straight in and clip into harness as factory, air bag man in queensland have them and occasionally list them on ebay. my old unit fail in all areas including the inlet valve snapping and traveling through the cylinder. the thought of an extra compressor has found a home with me and im allready planning to fit rock slider sills which will double as extra air tanks. they will be kept independant to the air suspension until failure requires joining in the meen time tyres and diff locks will be there purpose. thinking that next to the radiator tank and fuse panel could be the plase to mount an extra compressor. chris

    what pressure does the eas run at? I think the arb compressor is only good for about 120 psi and I thought the eas ran at a much higher pressure meaning your arb and extra air tank may not work as a back up system.

    The EAS compressor turns off at around 150 psi, I think it turns on around 110 psi.

    Its in the RAVE CD's.....

    "The compressor will
    operate when pressure falls to between 7.2 and 8.0
    bar. It will cut out at a rising pressure of between 9.5
    and 10.5 bar."


    Just converted all that:

    104-116 psi and 137-152 psi

    arb compressor

    the classic ais suspension requires 70psi to work that is the activation pressure. of coarse the higher pressure and capacity is used to give the system the speed it requires to maintain a pressure above the minimum

    ... which is another way of saying that the small (original) air tank pumped up to 150 psi, is equivalent to a much bigger tank working at "only" 120 psi.

    This is all hypothetical, as my re-con pump is working fine.
