I saw a Toerag at Avoca Beach with matt black and carbon fibre.
I must admit it looked good.
Weird but good.
But I would think it costs a pretty penny.

Just getting back to paint again, just priced up everything I need to paint mine in 2 pack. I have resprayed plenty of my own cars before, and can get a half decent finish that most people would think looks ok. Not including the cost of any panel or corrosion repairs along the way, I can get everything to do mine for just over $1200. This is only a standard non metalic paint - group 2 colour, and all sandpaper, thinners, etc. I am also considering going matt black, but have not priced this yet. I would be buying 8 litres of paint to do the Rangie. I can get away with 4 if I'm tight when I do a small to medium car, so 8 should be ok, but I have never painted a 4WD before. It is the last project on my list, so probably won't get around to starting the prep until Winter, and hopefully ready to paint when it starts to warm up.
Hi Gav,
Matt black paint is a major pain to upkeep. You touch it with your hands & it leaves oil marks showing.
I did my 76 F150 in matt black and it showed every imperfection, after I went mudding in it, it showed up where the mud was after I cleaned it.
Cheers,
Dave
Thanks Dave, nice to hear first hand accounts for something like this before I go and blow a heap of time and money. Back to the drawing board...:D Still might do the bonnet matt black, to stop the glare at night from the roof mounted lights.
Cheers mate.
Without a booth and good breathing gear (air fed mask) I wouldnt be touching 2 pack. No doubt the finnish can be attained but this stuff is nasty for your health.
cheers
Indeed it is. My garage converts into a nice little spray booth, with tonnes of lighting (I'm an Electrician) heaps of fans to move the fumes outside, and as I work for a Hire Company, I can get a full air wash mask to use while I'm spraying. I wouldn't condone using 2 pack without taking precautions.
Rather than full matt back try satin. It's available in spray cans if that rocks your boat and doesn't glare but also doesn't carry stains like matt.
As for the rest, I had a supra painted, full glass out and panels off, met 2pak and was about @2500- plus paints. I purchased paints separately and put the place through hell matching it. Try VG auto paints in Girraween for materials, they also run classes in prep and painting on weekends that are very good value. The painter was in Rydalmere , just on the east side of the railway bridge, south side of Vic Rd. Can't for the life of me remember the name.

That's the finished job, can't find a color pic but the B&W shows the finish better
