Cost of painting a 2 dr range rover classic

Im looking at painting my range rover classic anyone know what it may cost? Im looking at maybe the colour black or matt black? I reckon this would be a great present for the beast as at the moment it has badly faded paint I did take it to a Detailer they advised me it was beyond there help

    cheers

This is a "how long is a piece of string" question.
How much body work is required?
    Is the paint crazed?
How much disassembly are you prepared to do?
Do you want the door jambs painted?Do you want under the bonnet and the boot painted?

I would suggest it would be at least $3K .

Agree with above, how long is a piece of string?

I once had my bonnet painted, quotes were for between $700 to $2900 just for a bonnet, did have cracked/faded paint.

A guy build a RX7 drag car, paint alonecame to $12k.

I suggest you practice a bit, search a few links on you tube on how to paint a car and get a compressor, water tarp and a proper gun, masking tape and start spraying.
An empty garage is fine, close all doors and windows and wet the floor down to reduce dust.
Remember, many thin coats are better than few thick coats.

    Good luck

Gloss black will show every imperfection and early Rangies had a lot off the showroom floor so id avoid it.

Matt black is a high maint finish and will show every hand print, oil mark and bug splatter as satin or glossy marks on the paintwork so i wouldn't do that either.

Alloy body panels take a bit more work to prep for paint too so there will be increased cost in prep.

Also you cant spray 2 pak directly onto old paint or it will wrinkle and lift like a bugger, you need to use a prep paint/undercoat to protect the old paint from the new paint and even then its hit and miss.

If the paints just chalky you could attack it with some of the maquires range or you could key the old paint up and **** a coat of clear over it for the time being but it will be temporary at best.

Personally id make what you have as good as you can get it without paint.

Failing that id strip her down yourself and then send it to a body shop.

Glass out, rubbers and lights off, handles off etc.

If the colour stays the same they may do a shut door spray which is far cheaper but if you change the colour then the pillars and all the rest need prep and paint.

OR you can do what I did to my 2A years ago and buy 4 lt of quality house paint and a CIG Little beaver or similar and paint the bugger in your garage. ($300 inc tape and beaver).

When the time comes for mine to be done though, Im pulling the body apart, roof off and all.

    Hope this helps

    Tony

I paid $8K to two pack paint and fit the panels to my '85 4 door about 10 years ago. And that was at mates rates and I had dismantled the vehicle myself..

To paint one today, I'd guess you'd be paying about 4 times what the vehicle is worth.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

We're in two different arenas with those two, still My 91 classic could do with a couple of spray cans on the roof!

My recommendation is to do some study , hire a HVLP gun , practice on something then give it a go.
Use acrylic lacquer in the original colour.
The secret of the finish is in the preparation, as every flaw will be replicated in the top coat.
I have painted 2 or so cars . The first one was terrible but the second my 2 door RRC was not too bad.
Its best with an RRC to remove the panels to paint them. Its best to lie them flat so that the danger of runs is reduced.

    Vinyl wrap??!

This is completely of the wall! but...
    PROvinyl.com.au - Main
Apparently around 3K, lasts for 4/5 years and you could do a mix of gloss & matt black!
All the rage in Europe I hear!
