I swaped my solid disks on the RRC today to ventilated ones, had to change the calipers too and new pads. The calipers are old, the pads and rotors new. Bled it all out, had a drive expecting it to be much more grabby, but its fairly soft. Very easy upgrade and cheap too.
Does anyone know if new pads and rotors can be soggy? or perhaps they need to bed in a bit. What I didnt do was bleed all the brakes from the rear to the front again.
See... Fathers *can* be useful at times !
Cant see by your post if you have ABS brakes, if so you need to follow the long winded ABS bleed procedure.
no I dont have ABS and I should report that the brakes were what I could describe as slippery, and after a few days of driving are now working well. In fact its the most amazing upgrade, the car has so much stopping power.
If your using AP Racing 4 spot calipers as used on the later ABS equipped RRC's, these actually have two supply inputs meaning you need two lines in, one is for the hydraulic pump powered circuit, the other is for the static circuit.
Both bleed nipples need to be done in a particular order to make sure they're bled properly which may be why it's spongy, the other is that going from 2 spot to 4 spot calipers in some cases needs a bigger master cylinder to cover the extra volume of 2 more pistons and account for the surface area of the pistons to create the braking force on them.
Bleed format is generally the two lower ones first and then the two top screws.
