    Rear axle seal

    Hi there,

I was having a good look over my 1990 RRC before taking it to the Son of Trials event this weekend. I was surprised to see a small leak inside the right hand, rear disc which I thinkis one of the axle seals. I've no precise idea how long it's been there but it wouldn't be longer than a month or so.

The truck is completely stock, has been well maintained it's whole life and has about 254k km.

I've called my local RR shop and they're booked absolutely solid until next week, so no help for this weekend.

My main question is: Would I be OK to head off this weekend, keep and eye on it and the diff oil level OR should I not drive it at all?

A second question, if I may: Are there any 'magic' oil additives that would stop the leak for a week or so and not hurt the operation of the diff?

    cheers,

    bidds

It's pretty common, but if yours is "stock" then the rear bearings should be greased which means both seals have gone.

If you go in water you risk the bearings getting water in, but otherwise no harm should come, unless the "small" leak is bigger than you think.

    Regards Philip A
