    Snorkel and Second Battery Ideas

    Hey,

Just want to get some ideas on how I could go about making a snorkel for my 89 3.5 rangie. From what I can see there seems to be no manufactured kits available.

I was thinking some flexible hose from the air box along the top of the guard to the sill panel then a hole through that to some poly pipe that runs the A pillar to the roof. But seems dodgy, so I thought id ask.

Also id like to mount a second battery in the space in front of the air box. Obviously the P/S reservour will need a bracket made up to remount it and the vacuum bulb needs to be moved, all easy, but the problem is the air box.. is it easy to simply remount it or is there more involved.

Any ideas, even photos would be awesome..

    Thanks in advance.

Hey Kon, you can buy the complete kit off the shelf. I bought mine through MR Automotive in 09 but they sourced it from Sydney or Melbourne. I will attach a pic to show the connection. Yes you will need to relocate the power steering reserviour. I bought the connection which goes into the side of the air filter cannister, then has the metal tubing rather than all flexi pipe as it apparently created less turbulance to the airflow.

Suppliers in 09 were Rangie Spares and Graeme Cooper, they both had access to them.

    Hi Kon

I made a snorkel for my 91 3.9 from the standard end of the air filter and didn't need to move anything else, just cut a hole where it goes up to the roof, I made mine out of aluminium, I'm a metalworker so that was my easiest option, but can't see any reason you couldn't do the same with plastic tube and standard elbows, would leave you more for a good second battery system.
sorry there are no pics but its just started raining so will try to get some when its dry if you're interested.

i've seen plenty of DIY snorkel kits... here's a link to Ron's Rover pages. Ron's Range Rover Classic Modifications. He's also got some dual battery info as well.

My RRC90 has a gas conversion which gets a wee bit in the way of the route the snorkel piping would take when ran along the engine bay. if you have gas, this might also be the case for you which may mean off the shelf snorkel solutiions may still require some customising.

good luck with it and post some pics.
