    Viscous Couping Transfer case check

    Hey Guys,

    Im pretty sure my VC transfer case is gone on my soft dash 94 rangie. i am looking at buying a second hand case that has done 250000 how can you check if it is ok when it is out of the car.

    any help would be great.

    I would have thought that the only time you could check on wear would be to dismantle it and see the wear in the chain etc.

    At 250KK IMHO it would be near the end of its life.

    I am going to have a look in mine with a borescope when I change the oil , but I doubt I will be able to see much.

    Don't use an unknown item....

    Get the bits from the UK (Ashcroft, Island 4x4) and either have it rebuilt or rebuild it yourself. Bits are about A$1100 landed. If I can do it, it can't be too hard.
