    And nearly 2 years on.....we are back to 7 cylinders, lumpy idle, no power. Owning a RRC really is a learning experience.

    Relaced to date are;
    Plugs, Leads, Dizzy Cap, Dizzy Rotor, new Dizzy! (BritPart) including Amp, Bosch Coil, Fuel Temp sensor, Coolant Temp Sensor, 3AM MAF (Second Hand), alternator, battery, most of which I would have done regardless on a 20 year old car.

    Plugs were black last time I pulled them so we are running very rich. Lots of unburnt fuel in the white exhast smoke. I wish I had the eyes and the patience to use a multi-metre and run through the 14CUX troubleshooting manual. Working in IT I see daylight 2 days a week, and Saturday is taken up with kids sports.

    So, have I had enough of this weekly tinkering so should I bite the bullet and pay someone to run a full diagnosis and fix her up once and for all? should I keep going and fork out for a compression tester and a new MAF? or is it time to but a 'sensible' car as my wife puts it and let the POS go.....

    I have a distaste for being stung by using someone new without a recommendation, and I have heard some horror stories from using the perceived mainstream and reliable Rangie experts.....Bruce Davies might be an option.

    As you can gather I am in a dilemma here in that I have lost the 'lurve' for the beast that cannot be trusted for a journey longer than 50kms.......really don't want to maintain an expensive shopping trolley.

    I'm not even sure if I am looking for advice.......or just venting my spleen....

    But it does have one thing going for it........not one oil leak.......

    G`day ,

    a suggestion would be to check the vacuum pipe hasn`t come off the fuel pressure regulator and if it`s still on , remove from the reg and smell for and look for petrol , there should be none , also check the pipe isn`t holed or cracked ETC .

    The regs job is to lower the pressure and if it isn`t it can cause the problem you have .

    Also suggest checking the MAF connection .

    I have heard stories of people with sensible cars , i don`t know if the stories are true or not though but i seem to remember i may have had one once or possibly that was a dream .
