No power on accessories for cig lighter.

On my 92 classic there is no power to the lead for the cigarette lighter.

I have checked fuses with icon that look obvious without finding any blown and the wiring schematic is less than helpful.

Does anyone have an idea why power to this wire would fail?

Is there a connector somewhere that may have come disconnected?

    Where else should I look?

Do you have power with ignition?
My '87 only has power there with ignition, not accessories.

My Defender is wired the same way. The cigar lighter is only alive when the ignition is on.

No power to the wire at all ever*!

From memory the colour code is yellow with a red stripe and the harness it's incorporated into seems to run back into the dash behind the fuse panel.

    * At least no power since I have owned it!

Maybe you have a non-smokers pack RR.

The main wiring diagram is a bit sketchy, but the electrical troubleshooting manual seems a bit clearer, but see if this matches up with what you have...

According to that, the wire is white with a yellow trace, and runs directly from the back of the fuse to the the lighter, with 1 joiner in it which goes to the "cubby cigar lighter". If yours has 2 lighters, the joiner could be cactus. Unfortunatly it doesn't show the location of the joiner in the wiring loom.

Do you have power leaving the fuse box from the back of the correct fuse, and does this wire colour match the wire colour on the back of the lighter? I have seen on a mates '87 that one colour leaves the fuse box, and changes colour at a joiner... Don't know if this was done in the factory, or by someone later though. Maybe someone has 'tried' to fix it previously...

That all probably doesn't help too much, but I'll keep looking and report back if I find something else of note.

    Cheers - Gav.

Check the connections on the back or the ignition switch.
My county had a loose spade connector messed me up for a while, squished it up a bit and pushed it back on.
    don't know if that helps

If all else fails Diana, you could just hardwire it and have it powered all the time, just depends on your needs and how long you want to spend chasing the problem. I guess it comes down to originality, i would probably chase the fault but then i can't stand to let anything beat me.....

    Cheers......................Pete!

Actually, its all power that I want, couldn't care less about the smokes, so long as they don't do it near my lungs.

(Yes I do have the two sockets and yes neither of them work. )

One other thing that is shown in the troubleshooting manual, is that the cigar lighter circuit is also part of the seat heater circiut. Don't know if they come with heated seats over here... Someone maybe able to enlighten me. My old beast is too old to have such luxuries
