You are aware that just about all "polished" mags are actually clear lacquered I trust?

If not they go dull quickly and have to be repolished regularly.

Cheers Phil,I was planning on doing a clear coat myself.May even have a go at stripping and then polishing with my 200mm sander/buffer and a 100mm grinder with a buffing pad.Has anyone polished these wheels before,I would be keen to know prior to attempting it if they come up nicely easily or not.

I don't know how easy, but I have seen both UK photos and a couple around Sydney so it can be done. I would think a strip then paper polishing wheel with grinding compound would be the go before buffer.

Nicely - yes, easily - no. I have done just one of my rims, but only polished the outer part of the rim, and painted the centre a dark metalic charcoal - looks great, but it took me a day to strip all the old paint off, sand back a few nicks & scratches, polish the outer, mask up and paint the inner. I clear coated the whole lot the next day.

I haven't had a spare 4 days since then to do the other 4 yet, but they are on my 'to do' list.

If you have the time and patience, they will come up well, but be prepared for a bit of hard graft.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Thanks Andrew. The wheel in pic looks very lovely, shame you can't remember who it was as it would be nice to know if they were done by the owner or professionally done.Might look at getting the wheels dipped to remove paint and then polish them myself, just have to find a dipping place that is kind on alloy as I know caustics are not. Will try the whole process though myself on a spare also that is starting to chip a bit and see how big a job it is.
