My 4.2 is using increasing amounts of coolant. Occasionally, even when cold there is a lot of pressure build up in the top-up tank. Take the lid off and it blows out a pile of coolant (cold)- Some bubbles now coming up in the tank when running. Oil is clean. Tappet noise when starting cold. Radiator bloke says it could be gaskets. Any recommendations for a good but not overpriced mechanic in the Central West of NSW?:

Hi Merlin,
Could easily also be an airlock / air in the cooling system.
Do a search on here first to find out how to eliminate this (cheap) possibility.
Also don't forget that the rad cap can malfunction and not let air in when coolant is cooling down, air gets sucked in upstream via dodgy hose clamp connections, causing the system to partially fill with air that the expansion system can't cope with.
Air expands a lot faster and in greater volume than water as it heats.
cheers, DL
