Heater wires under dash
I have had the dash right out to replace the heater core. After months of deliberating I finally put it all back in and the mouldings on BUT, I have a black wire and a green wire left over. Not sure where they go and don't really want to pull the dash apart again to explore. The Haynes book seems to think they might be "fresh air" vent wires...
Does anyone remember where they go? or are they from somewhere else close by??

if all the mouldings are back on,
where is the actual location of the 2 wires??
Are they together on a plug or separate ?

Well, almost all the mouldings, I have the radio just sitting in its slot, not screwed in. So when it is removed the wires in question are accesible from that hole. They are seperate wires, but obviously run together to the same place originally and each have a black plastic cover over a female spade terminal. Seems to be enough length in them to probably make it around to either side of the heater box.
I was thinking as I took it apart that I was silly not to take photos of everything....

If it's a plain dark green wire in Lucas-speak that's a fused ignition supply. (multimeter: check) One of the auxiliary gauges? If it has a coloured stripe then all bets are off until you determine which one it is from a wiring diagram.

follow the loom from the heater control wires, if they are the green & black wires on the end of that, well they go up the passenger side of the heater box about 2/3rds of the way up to a control unit,
i have a pic of it as i have one apart atm, will try to post it asap

Thank you for that, that gives me a good idea of where to start retracing my steps. Now that I see the picture it does look familiar and I can't be sure that I did reconnect the wires to it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to fix it tomorrow.
Thanks again for the pic!

Correct, that is the pair of wires for the fresh air flap control in the pic.
You're not the only one who has seen this happen....

I am now qualified to give lessons in Indian Rubber Man tactics!
Thanks again to roverv8 for the picture and confirmation from justinc.
I memorised the picture and pulled just enough of the dash apart to be able to pull some of the plastics back from under the dash just enough to get my arm up inside it all and feel around for the terminals. I got it done but my elbows are sore!
I now do not want to see the inside of a rover dash for a VERY long time!
