Have you considered that you have become used to driving a car with a worn out engine. Rebuilding your tired 3.5 might give you nearly all the power you want without the cost and hassle of adapting the car to a different engine. The other thing that crosses my mind is that the 3.5 was probably the most reliable and durable of all the stock Landrover V8s.

Just a thought. Good luck with what ever you do.

Sacrilidge I know......BUT, why don't you fit a Toyota turbo diesel V8 from a late model cruiser? Had a drive of one a little while back and they seem like a sweet engine!
So if you do it first then I'll know what to expect when I do mine!

For those that have done the exersize, what is the total cost of parts to rebuild a 3.5? Although mine is still running ok, I am just wondering what the cost difference would be between a full rebuild, or swapping to something else when the time comes.

    Cheers -Gav.

Why dont you put a 4.0l out of a later disco in, swappin the timing cover and putting your carby manifold on it? Cheaper and a bit more power than rebuilding your old 3.5. Also put a Wade 259A cam in, you will notice more torque and midrange than std cam and better fuel economy, works well with gas too. Done a couple they work well
