Passenger door won't open - Help

Need some advice please. The passenger door on my 1990 RRC will not open. It's got central locking and it is unlocked, I checked. Trouble is I can't get the door trim off to get to the lock from inside the car because ofnthe dash and seat being in the way. I have pulled it away a bit from the top of the door and can sort of see the lock mechanism and the rod that goes from the inside door handle. It looks like the rod is not moving far enough to open the door but I can't open it from outside either. I'm thinking that the lock must have failed. What I need is how do I get the bloody thing open so I can sort it out.
    Thanks
    Nick

If you haven't tried this already:

Given that an internal spring on the lock system fails ( A regular topic) coupled with flexing of the handle ( On my 94 Disco as well), I found that using the key whilst using the outside handle most of time opens the door.
Earlier RRC's seem to have a sturdier handle make up even though it's the same design.

Thanks Langy just went out and tried but no luck. I replaced those little springs a few years back. I can see the lock mechanism through the gap in the top of the door when I put window but need to work out how/what bits to try to pull to get the door open

    door lock RRC

Hey do what the car thief s do. Get an old door from the wreckers or borrow one from RRC owner and pull it to bits and work it out then make a special tool to open the door lock?
Good luck its so frustrating to try and work it out.

Its got central locking? If so find the wires where they come from the door into the cab behind the door pillar and power the lock solenoid. If it clicks and doesn't open swap the wires around so solenoid pulls/pushes the other way this should unlock your door
Worth a try? I'm an Auto sparky and @ times have had to unlock cars and do what you're trying to do. Stick at it mate

Thanks Waughloch, I think your right about making a special tool to get it open. I think the central locking is working ok I can see the solenoid moving and the little knob thing moves up and down. I can also lock and unlock the door with the key. I'll go and find a RRC door mechanism and suss out some sort of tool

Thank for the suggestions guys, got it open and it works again until I lock it and then unable to open the door again. Looks like I need a new lock mechanism, at least now I'm an expert in breaking into RRCs!
    Cheers
