Given that they're generally illegal in most states, probably no.
Howzit,
Anyone using wheel adapters on their rangie?
Cheers.
Given that they're generally illegal in most states, probably no.
Yeah but lots of things are illegal and I still do them.
Hence why we all get targeted, all pay more insurance when something happens even if it isn't related (and we all get tarred with the same "who cares" brush).
There's not much advice given here for stuff that is blatantly illegal, hence the hour and a half wait for someone to say anything. Plus I don't know an Engineer that will cert adapters at all despite how well they have been done. And I've seen them very well done for track use that would never have a road issue.
Well I tell you a little story about that.
I once had a certain person in charge of licensing modified vehicles tell me(he yelled it at me in fact) that if the people who I was doing EFI conversions for, didn't get permission from him to do what they were doing, they had no chance of getting them licensed.
I told him that, because of all you corrupt ****s, I don't tell anyone to do anything, for the simple fact that even if you do get permission you still get ****ed over by the authorities.
So, my rule is simple; "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't" So do whatever the **** you like.
btw I notice it's not blantantly illegal to use adapters in just about every other country in the world.
Not a problem then, you can take your car on a trip to any other country in the world and use the adapters.
BTW, if you are involved in a crash where someone is seriously injured and they inspect your vehicle and find anything illegal or not notified, then whether you are in the right or wrong in the crash, you will be considered at fault and uninsured. You will have to pay for the damage to the other vehicle and any injuries to people out of your own pocket.
As they say at the RTA, you can modify your vehicle any way you want, but they don't have to register it.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
As I said....the system is corrupt if you can blame something just because it wasn't "approved" even though it wasn't the cause of the crash.
Properly designed wheel adapters are no less safe than the original hub they are attached to.
That's not how insurance, the RTA or the police see it. Despite how much better it may be, unapproved is unapproved.
No approval = No Insurance.
No approval = No Valid Rego.
No valid rego = No Green Slip Insurance.
No Rego/Green Slip = Police Charges.
Total = Whole pile of **** for driver. Whole pile of misery for victim.
That's right corrupt arse covering that's what it is.
Anyway maybe there's some offroad only guys that use them?
Some small earthmoving machines used these, to widen the track to use a wider bucket, or to fit accessory tracks over the tyres without fouling the sides of the machine.
My experience was that they constantly worked loose and an eye had to be kept on the nuts and tightening performed as necessary, usually fairly regularly.
Spacers or adaptors are specifically forbidden by Qld. Transport. These are considered a major defect. If a transport inspector found them on your vehicle, as Lotz-a says, your vehicle is unsafe, unregistered and uninsured. You would be required to leave the vehicle where it is and only move it by towing. You would likely also get a fine and points, and, worse, be ordered to take it over the pits at a Departmental inspection centre.
