    ROVER V8 WONT START!!!

    Hey Guys
    a 3.5 carb of mine wont start, just did a basic top end rebuild, gaskets etc
    when i wind the rockewrs down they are opening the valves up, any ideas? there opening up by at least 2mm

    Hydraulic lifters always take a few hours to bleed down after cold reassembly. Screw down all the rocker shafts, leave it overnight, test the preload in the morning by spinning the pushrods with your fingers. Rotate the engine so all the valves are checked at their closed position.

    If some valves do not open then the engine will not go! Put the engine to 1 TDC firing ( I hope you have kept this position on the pulley) and you will see no1 is closed and the others are in various stages of lift.
    If You have lost your crank/cam position, turn the engine towards TDC with your thumb or finger over no1 plug hole. You will feel if it has compression. make sure you point the rotor towards the relevant no1 plug lead or more correctly 30degrees anti clockwise so that the rotor points towards no1 when the dizzy shaft is inserted.
    The most common cause of no start is that the dizzy is set 180degrees out.
