3.5 efi distributors
Hello . I have 2 distributors for my 3.5 89 efi rangie . The drive gears are aligned differently with their rotors . When one is fitted at 8deg btdc the vac advance unit is pretty much in the middle of its range of articulation between water neck and water pump body . ( pretty much perfect .) The other dizzy when inserted for 10deg its virtually hard up against the water neck and cant get round 2 more degrees or if I move the drive 1 tooth round its hard up against the water pump for about 10 deg meaning I can get to 8deg but only just . Ive worked out theres 14 teeth on the dizzys representing 25.5 degrees rotation per tooth . the distance between water pump and water neck is pretty much this 25 degrees of rotation . I believe the 2nd dizzy must be from a different model engine although it appears identical accept for the alignment of the drive gear teeth . I can get engine running with both dizzys but only 1 gives me a good range for adjustment .My description may sound complicated but has anyone got any ideas . Thanks Mark

There's no reason you can't just remove the drive gear, and redrill the roll pin hole to a different alignment. Or check the two drive gears, you may just have to swap them over.
Also check the vac advance arm is located correctly.

realign drive gear
I will have to check but you may have nailed it . the drive gear may be 180 degrees out on the roll pin from a rebuild of the dizzy . I will look and see . The more I think about it the more sense it makes that the roll pin isnt parallel with teeth . Does that make sense ? one side may come out in the middle of 2 teeh and the other side may be ontop of a tooth . I think its possibel . If I rotate the gear 180deg on the roll pin it may alter the rotor relation to the teeth by half of the 25.5 degrees between teeth .
