    Which external fuel pump?

Which fuel pump should I buy to place outside the fuel tank? I have an 88 Vogue. Many years ago, after 2 in tank pumps failed in quick succession, I installed a Bosch motorsport pump outside the tank next to the filter near the filler pipe. It worked well for a few years but after the car has been sitting idle for over 2 years it has siezed up. I cannot remember the Bosch part number nor specifications. I know about the Commodore VN in tank option but I would prefer another external pump. Suggestions sought. TIA

VL RB30 6 cyl commodore has an external pump with the same specs as a VN one, but also uses a low pressure prepump in the tank. Not certain this would be necessary in a RR, but IIRC someone has used the single pump easily with no probs. Have you taken it off and looked for a Bosch part number?

Another good place to find external fuel pumps is the Volvo 240/260/740/760 series up to about 1985 (?). If you can acquire one cheap they are equivalent to the motorsport one and were once sought after by the ricer boys. The early 240 one is Bosch part no. 0 580 254 909

Those early Volvo K jetronic pumps deliver some serious pressures, 75 psi IIRC! The L jetronic versions like later 240 740 etc from 1986 or thereabouts onwards are the lower pressure ones that would suit. Good thing with them is they are attached to a nice little bracket that holds the filter etc too.

Only if your regulator is set that high... They work perfectly well on EFI cars at lower pressure if one happens to fall off a volvo in front of you.

True, but as a direct bolt in with no fuss the later L jet would be better. The Volume and flow of the early pumps are magnificent, good for the ricers as you say I really like the K jet system for its simplicity and were very reliable as long as they were kept clean. The downfall was near the end of production when they added Lambda control etc, I converted a 1989 Saab 900 back to an early system so it would actually run better and not keep overheating from leaning out continually in traffic.

    Minimum spec?

Thanks J and B, realy great to have quick concise replies. Would you know the minimum spec pump that I can fit? After I coaxed my Bosch back to life it pumps just over 2 litres per minute and pushes 50 psi, but it also now leaks, hence the replacement.

That is higher than factory, which is fuel rail pressure 35psi, and 1 litre a minute is satisfactory.

Grab a number off your pump and get another.
