    What is this thingy?

While trying to get my 88 running again I came accross a bizarre lump in the fuel feed hose. I peeled off the black shrink wrap and then the tin foil taped round a bit of red hose. The blue lead was wrapped in with the tin foil and bolted to earth. The copper tube thingy is easy to blow through either way and has something loose inside it. I don't think it has anything to do with my car problems but I am curious what it is.

Could be a check valve, but why it is there, I'm not sure. If it is a check valve, the fact that you can blow through it both ways suggests that it is stuffed, but I could be wrong on both counts - wouldn't be the first time...

Agree. Now check the air intake for a "Hyclone"

    Thanks guys

I think you might be right.
So if the claims are right and I remove it, my fuel consumption will go up 10 to 20%! Here goes.

    anti syphon valve?

    OOC try this for me..

hook it up to a lump of hose and see if you can flow water through it with it in different orientations.

Leave it in place, and add a Hyclone. Then you will be making fuel and have to fit an overflow tank.

    More info on thingy

As suggested ,I have connected it to a garden hose. It provides very little resistance in either direction with a hefty spray of water coming out either way. Re the bit inside, when I shake it, it feels more like a single metal something, rather than pellets. If I do not get a definative answer on what it is tomorrow, I will cut it open.
