Any clues where to look guys . The repair man was prepared to sort it for me but I was worried about it costing as much as the car is worth by the time its sorted .
I know im fully gassed now and thats my starting point for diagnosis .
    Cheers all.

the fault is likely to be the thermostat
you will need to disemble the left hand side of your dash to get to the switch
the Air cond control arm moves a tiny pin just behind the pivot point inside the theromstat housing
it can be repaired by using a micro drill bit ,hone out the original pin hole and replace with a pin made from a drill bit .cut to length and glued into place with arildite or such.
do not adjust any set screws as all will work again once glue has set
or pay heaps and buy new replacement therostat
another alternative would be to use an aftermarket therostat and mount it external wherever it may fit

hope this has been a help

    no thermostat

Been driving round now for a week with the thermostat bypassed and the wires bridged . Works good just runs flat out with variation to fan speeds helping keep the condensor from freezing up . This car has no floor coverings and gets warm inside from all the heat entering via the steel floor . Running the air flat out seems ok . Keeps the cabin comfortable .
Anyone know if running this air con flat out will cause any problems down the track ?
