    VAlley Gasket/pressurizing oil EVERYWHERE

    Hi all,

Ok here the story, Bro brought a RRC, 1986.

Valley gasket was leaking, so we fixed it with the black Valleyt gaskets and I believe did everything great, (did my own 1 month later and still great, touch wood), this was all about 10 months ago. Car has 4 inch lift and 35's. and is not drivern overly a lot.
Its is now ****ing oil from the rear and now (today) ****ing oil from the front and there is a river of oil sitting on the Valley gasket. My question is.. is there a pressure issue or a valve that should have been cleaned out or something, what would have caused this. BEFORE we do it again,

    OR

Does anyone know how much to get this done?

    Cheers nAT

You must have a blocked breather or flame trap, the mesh on the flame trap can be removed it's only a bunch of steel screwed up wire and wash it our with a solvent of petrol.

    Hay,
Is there another breather or circuit that regulates the block pressure?
Other than the fire thingy, he bought a new one 6onths ago or is this the time zone that you have to clean them?

There is a breather right at the back of the block that can block up, it only has a small port through the back wall of the valley.
Also I've tried cleaning traps in solvent but I think it depends on how bad they are as to whether it works some of the crud goes pretty hard and won't shift and new ones are cheap.

    could be tranny fluid

The breather for the transmission could be hanging on the firewall behind the block and possibly (if overfull) discharging tranny fluid into the valley if its hanging anywhere close . Especially if 4wd ing in steep terrain .
Is it definitely engine oil ? If tranny fluid youll have nailed the cause .
Im no expert though may be worth a look .

If the car is not blowing copious smoke indicating stuffed rings, then the usual cause of pressurising the valley is a head gasket leak from a cylinder/s into the valley.

This can even blow out the valley gasket.

Do a compression test and replace head gaskets if necessary..
    Let us know the compresssions.

    Blocked Breathers

    Howdy Guys,

It's worth checking whether all the breathers are open, not just the flame trap. There is a small breather at the back of the passenger side rocker cover, it is covered by a plastic cage with a foam filter and is often blocked.

It's also worth cleaning out all the breather lines with solvent and wire, as they block with carbon and become restricted. Also check the steel fitting into the plenum chamber as these can partially or completely block.

Also, it's worth checking whether the inlet manifold gasket is properly sealed. The steel type (as opposed to the black rubber coated type) needs sealant (like aviation sealant) or they leak like a seive. I have also had a Discovery where there were no bolts fitted to the clamp plates at the end of the valley gasket and no-end of sealant was going to stop that from leaking.

    Regards,

    Sam.

    Thank you all!!!!
I Think we have a huger prob with the breather at the back of the passenger valve cover. Its not there! first prob, I was thinking of drilling this out/tapping it and putting an aftermarket one on there? Any reasons why not?

The one which goes form the flame trap to the plenum, the plenum side, how to ya clean inside this?
I cleaned out the one which goes to the Carb cansiter with a drill bit, BUT the big one?

    Cheers NAT P
THANK YOU TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!

Mate you are clutching at straws.
AFAIR the flappers do not have the inlet at the rear of the LH rocker. It is the inlet for air anyway, and if blocked the air will suck down the dipper stick. If not on the rocker the inlet will be in the back wall of the V under the gasket.
To clean the wire in the separator , hit it with a gas torch like a MAP gas one , but not too much. If the stainless wire is damaged you can replace with Gottschalk.

Blow through the pipe to the throttle body and take off the hose at the throttle body. if the car is neglected you may find that this (hose or stub) is blocked up with gunk.
Otherwise it is as I posted, head gaskets or rings.
    Regards Philip A

As PhillipA has said ,there is no breather port at the rear of any EFI engine ! its on top of and the rear of the passenger side rocker cover . Exactly as PhillipA says , wet and dry compression test required .
