    Ticking noise under dash

    Hi all,
    I have an '88 Rangie with this noise that started when I pressed the brake pedal but has now shifted to when turning right under acceleration or when hitting a bump or driveing over a rough surface. It goes berserk when cold first thing in the morning before i've even moved, then settles after a couple of minutes. Its not the speedo as i've disconnected it. There are some relays under the instrument binnacle & i'm wondering whether it could be one of them. Does anyone have any ideas?

    noise under dash

    hi.

    what side of the dash is it coming from? there are relays under the seat aswell as behind each kick panel drivers side and passenger side.

    the sound is coming from the drivers side, thats why i've disconnected the speedo.
    i've left the cable pokeing up above the instrument binnacle so i can observe what its doing & i don't believe that its the problem.
    it could be a sticky relay, but it would help to know what the one under the instrument binnacle are for.

    I would just start by switching relays until you narrow it down. im trying to think what the relays are under the dash

    Remove the shroud under the steering column, start the engine, leave the hand brake on, stick your head under the dash, have a feel of the relays until you find the culprit.

    When you're driving slowly grab the inner of the speedo cable and see if it twists up before being too hard to hold. It may be binding and releasing the tension, you usually can't observe this but can feels it. Usually see it in the speedo though as a slightly bouncing needle through to ridiculously bouncing needle.

    The speedo cable inner moves freely within the outer so i'm sure that it's not the problem. Not doing it at idle now, only under acceleration. Will try Bee utey's plan when time permits.
