Bushes, I used to find the chassis end of the radius arms if loose gave a solid clunk that sounded as if it was from the rear.

A frame ball joint as well.

Yep - bushes I would say - mine makes the same noises, and the bushes are shagged - it's on the 'to do' list, but quite a long way down... The clunking doesn't bother me like some other things on it at the moment. If I start fixing things underneath it, It may never end...

Did someone say 'Maintenance by crisis'???

I had a bit of a clunk start on my RRc some time ago, not too much later the bracket on the diff housing for the "A" frame ball joint came apart. I'm really glad it happened at 10 KPH at a stop sign and not highway speed.

Worthwhile getting underneath and having a look.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Boy, that axle will not rust!!!

I had this happen twice , once when snatching someone up some steps at Yalwal, and then again on Cooloola beach. Lashed it together with Nylon straps and drove VERY SLOWLY back to Buderim where my Czech mate and I pulled the axle out and Migged it and added side braces.

EVERYONE with an RRC has had clunks in the back at some stage.
Most likely to be the ball joint so get a big screwdriver and try to move it up and down.
Could be bushes but this usually also causes the car to self steer on gearchanges.
May even be one of the ball joints on top or bottom of the Boge if it only happens on a rough road.
    GET UNDER AND GET DIRTY>

Not wrong there, it's what happens when you get a pin hole leak in the oil cooler hose and don't have an underside power wash after the repair.

Thanks for the replies. Have had radius bushes and a frame checked but said to be fine. Don't have a leveler as its a 94 been converted to coils. Just sounds like a loose towbar hitch but it's not for those of you thinking of stating the obvious.

What about the shocker rubbers? The big front end 'Clunk' on mine when I got it from the father in law - the one that his mechanic said was 'Very serious' was just the top shock rubbers...
