Fuel pump not getting power.. Out of ideas

g'day just wondering of anyone has experienced the same issue i am having with my fuel pump. when i kick it over she runs fine for about 5 secs then dies. shows voltage then voltage disappears.

when i connected the fuel pump directly to a second battery she idled and revvvved fine.

i have checked all lines back to the ecu and and there is no short. the fuel pump relay works fine as well. i have tried 3 different ecus and nothing changes.

im really stuck for ideas as to why it initially gets voltage then loses it. im tempted to drive around with the pump connected with a on off switch to the second battery...

The pump power cable runs up the passenger front windscreen pillar. There is a connector between this loom and the dash loom, and I have had to bypass one that was faulty. I think the connectors get damp and eventually become too loose/corroded/melted to stay reliably connected. Personally I would get a new heavy cable and bypass any section of joinered cable that gives grief. The wire colour remains the same all along the loom from the relay to the pump, white/purple IMO. Spot it anywhere along the loom and you can test if it's currently under power.

If you are tempted to do a total bypass (not really necessary) you should run from the main battery and use a relay to shut off the pump with the ignition switch. Or just go straight from the OEM relay to the pump.

How does the wiring go? My haynes manual isunclear and my rave is for older models.

    From the back is it

    1 fuel pump
    2 connector
    3 fuse box
    4 pump relay
    5 ecu

    ???

What year RR do you have?

The flapper type air flow meter has fuel pump contacts in it. The engine will start without needing them but it won't keep running.

Look, you hafta put down that useless manual, get your peepers and your fingers active, trace the harness to where you can see it, lift the pillar trim as needed, tilt out the fuse box as needed, slit the harness sleeving with a sharp knife as needed, and FIND the correct wire which WILL be the same colours from the relay to the pump connector. As for (5) your pump isn't run directly off the ECU. That connection is for operating the relay. Once you have determined where the pump wire is, check it at each spot for connection to the next spot. Bridge the faulty section and you're done!

I would think the highlighted part means that the pump is working when the engine is cranked over.
If so, then I would say the wiring through the body to the pump is OK.

Yeah it is an 88 flapper type. Had an electrical wizz help me out with it yesterday and couldn't sort it out. Bee does the power go up the rear pillar and down the front passenger pillar does it? Im pretty sure mine is different than that.

Does it have gas? Have you had a backfire recently?
    Give this test a try.
Turn the ignition on and lift the flapper with a suitable implement and see if the pump comes on. If it does you have found the problem.

Yep on gas and back fired a while a ago. I was lead to believe by land rover that the flap per was fine. Is that a two person job Phillip? Does it need to be open slightly as i turn the key or straight after?
