Question Rear Window Heater Repair & Relay location

Is it possible to (re) solder the connections to the rear window heater strip on my 1989 RR Classic?

I have just bought the vehicle, and wanting to do a bit of tidying on it.
the connections ti the rear window heater look like the solder joints have broken off. The heater strip looks to be copper?

Second unrelated question.. I want to get to the relay for the auxiliary driving lights which is meant to be under the lower dash panel below the steering wheel.
According to the RR Classic manual(not really sure exactly what years it is meant to cover?) I downloaded it says I need to remove 6 screws to remove the panel.. for the life of me I can only find 4 plus 2 plasti rivet things that hold the ventilation duct... however I cant seem to remove that panel.. anything else I am missing here?

    tidy up

    Hi

yes you should be able to solder it back on as long as you get it nice and clean that will be the key. using something like bakers soldering fluid will do the job. as far as the other two screws are concerned there should be 2 hiding underneath the vent when you take it out.
    Hope this helps.

I believe you run a serious risk of shattering the glass if you try that. Supercheap sell a product especially for this purpose. It's called Permatex Rear Window Defogger and is an electronically conductive tab adhesive. Cost around $10.

The ventilation panel is removed by levering the vent out from the bottom corner. This will show 2 screws pointing upwards under where the vent sat, which you undo, then you lever under the housing which will push 2 "hairy" plastic plugs out. Then you will see that the vent really just covers where the radio used to be in older models, and there will be ANOTHER two screws there which you undo.
There is another screw on an angle at the RH end, and you should also undo the two BIG screws at the front end of the lower panel .
I am not talking in detail about the 2 screws on the LH side or the two under the column shroud as these are obvious
You then push the lower panel down and forward and unplug the rheostrat for the dash lights.
You can then undo the screws holding the steering column cover in place and split it , and there will be all the relays.

I have tried to solder these in the past - you may be luckier than I was, if the original connection point is still in place.

I doubt you will have problems shattering the window unless you use a blow torch

There is a conductive adhesive available for this application, but don't ask me where you can get it from? I have seen it advertised in the US.
