its time to repower the 86 EFI RRC

    hay hay,
my brother recently blew up his EFI 3.5 in his 86RRC, so now the thought is wether to put another 3.5 in, OR put a 3.9 in, OR the ulimate is chev.

He rather do things once, so chev is his personal choice BUT finding an engine is the issue,
3.9 can the flapper EFI run this OR does he have to change it all to 14eux,

OR 3.5 all the way- we have been looking for a while for a reasonably priced one BUT some people are asking money that its worth going for a chev.

    Thoughts???

Unless he wants to replace the trans (ESPECIALLY IF IT IS A MANUAL) and the 10 spline soft cheese diffs and axles/ CV's etc, then keep away from the hard core GM products...a 3.9 short motor will be a direct bolt in and run fine with the EFI.

    What happened to the 3.5?

A 3.9 or 4.6 RV8 would be the easiest options. Chevys provide a lot more power but everything else needs uprating to match which is not so easy and not so cheap. 260hp/300 ftlb is a nice achievable combination for a LR, shouldn't break anything and will be a big improvement on your 3.5.

I agree with Traco, I have a chev in my 86 and have upgraded the transmission and rear diff. If you can do all the work yourself and have a bit of money to spend maybe go to the chev conversion. If you have tight budget and aren't really mechanically minded go with the 3.9 or 4.6.

P.s I have a supercharged 383 with a turbo 700 to lt230 and haven't looked back. It has been reliable and plenty of power but I've done all the work myself.
    Regards Paul

Yup. I was just looking for a kit recently. Just do a Google search and you'll find Real Steel and the other big names who sell these things. It's not a bad idea if you want to keep the engine and ancillaries and get some more power.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

if he wants the chev, then i have a mate with one in a disco, with front and rear lockers that i'm pretty sure he'll offload rather cheaply. Pm if interested.
