Had the same problem a couple of years ago ('86 classic), one bank not firing. problem was ECU (under drivers seat). At the time change over ECU flown to Kalgoorlie LR dealer from Perth was $120 plus fitting. Pretty good deal I thought.

Hi all, on a recent outing in the bush, my '89 Classic decided to lose power and blow a heap of smoke.
Upon stopping and checking it out, I found all four cylinders on the LH bank not working. All leads are fine, the plugs spark, but nothing fires on the LH bank. I used nearly 3/4 of a tank in about 20kms of driving.
After getting home and looking further, it seems that all the LH injectors are dumping a heap of fuel into the cylinders.
I did just drive through some water ( about 10cm deep but it sprayed everywhere) and then the car died. Thinking it was water on the dizzy cap like it has done before, out came the WD40 and the cap, leads and coil got a liberal dose, it made no difference.
I haven't traced the injector wiring yet, but I presume some water has gotten into a plug and is shorting it out holding the injectors open all the time. Seems strange to just be doing it on the LH bank.
I haven't had this car long so I don't know it's history. When I bought it, I replaced plugs and leads and the vacuum advance module on the dizzy as it was stuffed. The timing was at TDC as well, which I adjusted t 6 deg BTDC, seemed to run a lot better.
I have done a compression test and the cylinders on the LH bank came up to around 170 psi give or take.
I haven't looked at the regulator, but I can't see it only affecting the LH bank.
Any ideas?

But my plugs are firing, it's just getting too much fuel.
14CUX batch fires each bank .There are 2 amplifiers in the ECU, one for each bank.I haven't traced the injector wiring yet, but I presume some water has gotten into a plug and is shorting it out holding the injectors open all the time. Seems strange to just be doing it on the LH bank.
I would look for as you say a wet connector, or a broken wire in the loom .
The injectors are in series and the wires are yellow white and yellow blue from terminals 11 and 13 or the ECU. You might test continuity.

Cheers for that, I will check it tonight.
If it is or has been on LPG the injector bank wires may have been cut. The two banks of injectors are switched to earth via two wires, one for each bank. One is yellow with a white stripe, one is yellow/blue stripe. If either has shorted to earth you will get your problem. You can disconnect the main ECU plug and check back through the loom for earth shorts or test the ECU for grounding on either of these two wires. Of course if you can borrow a spare ECU that would assist your diagnosis.![]()
G`day , being that 89 should be a flapper system , i`d suggest you check the connectors to the resistor pack , found near the airflow meter or flapper , it has 4 resistors for each bank and these batch fire too , also check any other electrical connector related to the injection and also check the grey earth wire for the bank at fault . One bank only is saying the problem is electrical .
89 Model should be a 3.9 with MAF, but if it is a 3.5 with flapper, the first thing I would look at is the resistor pack that is screwed to a bolt on the back of the LH head. If the bolt comes loose no earth.

I had to fix a 89 RR a few years back with identical problem. It was worse going around a Rh corner! Eventually traced to injector wiring rubbed through at back of engine. The wiring was routed over a sharp edge of the block and eventually rubbed thru. The short was opening left bank injectors full.
