    3.5 Fuel Pump Replacement

Have an 89 Classic with abt 400K on it & am fairly sure the fuel pump has died. Due to back & shoulder problems & location of car dropping the fuel tank to replace the pump is not an option. I'm looking at cutting a hole above the pump & replacing it that way. I was wondering if anyone here could advise me if
    a. This is possible
    b. Approximately where the pump is located
    c. How much clearence there is between the floor & tank & any pipes or wires running there.

    regards Jeff

Bumping this thread up, going to attempt this in the next week or so.

I have an 84 classic with the carb 3.5

The fuel pump makes a loud rattle noise when priming or in operation... it used to only make the noise when the tank was very low on fuel. I want to replace the pump as a preventative measure.

Seems silly to have to drop the entire fuel tank assembly to access the fuel pump, so the removal of the interior floor is best option at the moment...
Has anyone cut out/installed an access hole/flap in a pre-1991 for the fuel pump?

The carby cars have an external fuel pump IIRC, normally a Facet type in the rear wheel arch area.

They are a 'clicky' type of pump but excessive noise can be due to an air leak on the suction side making the pump work harder/faster.

    check your pick up lines...

the fuel pump from memory is down on the chassis rail and is a facet style pump.

replace with any other facet style pump of <7psi >1l/min delivery.

Assuming second pic could be the pump, as there is power/fuse for it, however it looks a bit small?

First pic, to me, also looks like it has a wire of some sort, that could be fuel level sender or something?
