If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I assume you are talking about a Range Rover 'TURBO D', with the VM diesel? They are very rare so you'll be laughing if you find a good replacement engine for it, if looked after they're a good thing, but if you neglect them it will cost, big.
A better option would probably be a Series 1 Discovery, they are cheap, more reliable and newer. Albeit without to looks of a Rangie.
Please tell us more about what you're after and whether you have any skills that would influence the desicion, for instance i have a Landy as the whole family has them, i've grown up with them and i know how to fix them (with some advice from AULRO occaisionally, usually from blknightfor which i am very greatful )
Cheers
Will
Actually you can drive a v8 RRC. But you need a special letter from the rta and you need to explain why its your only car available check the website. This policy is a perfect example of a pencil pusher writing policy with no connection to reality. They have a power to weight for bikes and learners but for cars your not allowed to drive a RRC v8 but can drive a 6 cyl falcodore or even a lotus elise.
Hard to get when your family has 4 other cars you could driveand that's only in my immediate surroundings.
You simply cannot get permits to drive a v8 unless it's for business purposes. Dad's on a pension, and I couldn't get an exemption for my brother to drive his 88.
If the service history is good, and it starts from cold fine, and wide open throttle in the turbo range there's very little smoke i'd say go for it. You only need the diesel for 3 years and you won't be doing a huge amount of km per year. At the end of the three years you might able to freshen it up and sell it for more than you bought it for because of the rarity of the Turbo D.
The VM diesel motor makes a very good anchorThey are good when looked after but if not the cost of parts will kill you as they are rare and hard to source parts for , In short run away fast , As has been said just pick up a Tdi disco

On a hunch, I just had a look here and all the parts are available for the Jeep 2.5 version, which was used in RRC in the UK also.
They are expensive though with a head at $990 and you need 4 and a full rebuild kit at $4895 , not including heads but including crank and wet liners, by the photo.
So it looks feasible to rebuild one if you had to as I think fitting the 2.5 stuff will all fit the 2.4 block..
