    Another Saggy Bum question

    Hi All,

Have 81 RRC which has a saggy bum like all RRC over time.

I bought a s/hand pair of Kings springs from a guy who was wreaking a RRC and really in Landrovers/Range Rovers.

Said the springs (King) would fix the problem .......so I removed my rear spring and noticed that my rear springs have an additional spring coiled within the normal one spring.

I put in the one king spring in, refitted wheel and took vehicle off the jack only to find that the side with the king spring was saggier than the old spring (removed) and saggier than the other side (yet to be done).

I removed the King spring and replaced it with my old (double spring).

My question is has anyone seen this two springs in one, was it a factory fitment (as my vehicle was basically stock when I purchased it.

I don't have the money (at this time)to spend on airbags, and besides with the current twin spring (I don't think airbags would fit in it)

I believe spring replacement would be the cheapest option for me, but if anyone has a another idea ......all suggestions appreciated or should I just take the vehicle to a suspension specialist for advice and does anyone know of a good suspension place (North or South) of river in Perth that knows Rangies and can advise me.

    Cheers

    Baggy

how much lower is the rear than the front? my rear is about 15mm lower than the front, but this was the same with 2 different brands of springs, i feel that when i fit my bullbar, it should pull the front down and it will be in line with the rear. well hopefully. have you done a hub/bottom of rim to guard measurement yet?

No. Perhaps a "Heath Robinson" fix for deleting the Nivomat.

By 'double spring', did you mean a smaller diameter spring inside a larger one, or a dual rate spring?

Just before the swaybars come in, they come out with a dual rate spring, which was supposed to help the body roll a bit, but also made a better load carrying spring too.

Whislt only the defender 130's came out with two springs, one inside the other.

I would be going dobinson springs in the rear, standard rate but a taller spring, and putting air helpers in them.

I'd be interested to see a pic.

I've seen the polyairs, but not spring within a spring.

This thread reminded me of an 84 classic I looked at once to buy.
It was so saggy, I could bounce it on the bump stops,
just by pulling down on the bull bar, when it was sitting there.
    Ultra ultra soft suspension.

I have seen the spring in a spring in the back of a defender and also as an add-on from x engineering to prevent the main spring dislocating

    Another Saggy Bum Question

    Hi All,

Attached is photo's of current spring set up.

I saw a defender ute at West Coast Rovers here in Perth and it had double
coiled spring although they looked taller than mine.

My rear end is lower than the front by 50mm I'd guess, but has that noticeable front end higher than the back when on a level surface.

Photo of my 81 RRC has been taken on a slight slope so dosent look as bad........maybe I'll just park and drive down hills

    Cheers

Baggy, you need to find someone who knows what they are looking at !
Does this thing have a Load leveller ? is it fitted,is it working ?
For each coil ,whats the coil steel diameter ,How many coils ,whats the relaxed length of each coil ,what are the Paint color makings on each coil .?? What is the intended end result required ,eg 2 inch coil lift ? what shocks .What are the readings at the bumpstops ? As for the double coils ,relocate to nearest round file ,WOFTAM

    Another Saggy Bum Question

    Hi 400HPONGAS,

To answer your question ...... yes it has a load leveler fitted ...... is it working I'm not sure.
Coil diameter, number of coils, relaxed length of coil and what the paint markings on the springs are all unknown to me, but am willing to pull one spring out if necessary.
My only requirement is for the vehicle to sit level on the road, rather than the front end being higher.
If that means a 2" lift to bring up the rear that"s fine but like most LR owners I do carry some recovery gear and tools in the back but that load stays constantly in the back

Do you know a suspension place in Perth that knows LR's that I can take the vehicle to and they can advise me what replacement springs to purchase and fit

    Cheers

take it to WA Suspension in ossy park. just tell them you want it level. i got my current lovells from them, and it is slightly down at the back, but i am yet to fit my bullbar. possibly even look at getting non heavy duty fronts and heavy duty rears.
