    3.5 V8 no start

Replced the fuel pump & now the engine no go. In desperation, called mobile mechanic, checked fuel,O K spark, OK, compression, O K (abt 130) checked coil, O K checked & cleaned distributer,O K. His conclusion it was the MAF. Before I go & order a new one could this be the problem or could it be something else. P.S. he sprayed aero-start in after MAF & engine fired.
any advice would be much appreciated.

The vehicle should run without the maf, will use alot of fuel but it should run. Try unplugging the maf and turning it over. Also where you using alot of fuel before you replaced the pump?

If its a Flapper (3.5 V8 ?)it WONT run without the flapper working properly . the gate switch will shut down the pump alone.Checked Fuel Okay ? What does that mean ? Correct pressures/flows at Pre-start/idle/cruise/overrun/power ? Dont confuse 14CUX systems with the Old Flapper systems !!

    Thanks Mudsloth
Fuel consumption prior to pump failure was probibly average for old 3.5 20 to 25 lt/100 arround town. I thought it would run if not well with a faulty MAF but it will not fire at all. It has me baffled

Dont know if its flapper or hot wire . Marked Lucas 73243A .Have no way of measuering fuel pressure but when cranking engine fuel stream out of filter travels 4/5 ins. As it wont start I have no idea of fuel flow at other times.

Keno1947,next time you get a PART NUMBER like that ,try googling it ! and look what it comes up with ! Low and behold it is a Flapper !!! So you probably have a 86-late 88 RRC .101 reasons why it still wont start , What you got for an ignition system , standard Lucas AMP and coil ? Leads,cap/rotor button ? Id pay Beeutey a visit ,someone whom knows his way around the ignition systems.
And as for ordering a new MAF/Flapper ,your dreamin !!!

I did Google lucas p/n & found out it was flapper (available recon. ex UK)
The engine is now running fine & it had nothing to do with the MAF.
Stupidist little thing. Took the air cleaner off to access MAF & found a wire hanging down going to a relay (?) on the MAF support bracket.
Was insulating tape on one of the coil terminals ,connected wire to this &
BINGO it started So much for mobile mechanics
    Thanks for all the help.

    Jeff

P.S. its an April 1989 build Vogue.

From memory the relay on the MAF bracket is the injector power supply (although I could be wrong).
